Wachusett Mountain’s second annual Powder Room Park Party was another huge success this year, building off of what began last year as the first women’s only terrain park specific event in the area. The day started out with a group stretch on the patio, and after everyone felt ready to ride, we hit the lifts. Our first run was focused on good terrain park etiquette, meaning we went over the basics of SMART style guidelines, which was followed by a very helpful sight lap. The Wachusett park crew was extremely helpful all day, and were eager to see girls hitting new features.
These girls were sending! They were super receptive to coaching and stayed positive all day keeping the energy up. It sounded like everyone surpassed their goals for the day and kept pushing. The park crew did a great job and provided a progressive platform for all of the skill levels. We had some girls hitting a pretty intimidating dog house and dialing in their bag of tricks on flat rails and jumps.
“I was impressed by how fast they were learning and stomping new tricks. It kept me motivated all day,” said Thumbs Up Bird rider Ashley.
“There’s not a huge ladies scene at Wachusett. It was nice to be back in my stomping grounds and I had a ton of fun ripping with these chicks.” MacKenzie was also there cheering girls on from behind her camera. “It’s always great to see new faces at these kinds of events. There are less distractions when we get to focus on female progression. Everyone is happy, cheering for one another, pushing themselves to try things they’ve been too intimidated to in the past. I can’t thank my local mountain enough for creating this setting and hosting this event.”
Thank you to all the girls and supporters who came out to make this day possible. Without the support of Thumbs Up Birds, POMPOM, Magical Go-Go and the wonderful freestyle coaches at Wachusett, we wouldn’t have been part of the progression that took place.
